Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams is still on track to make his first appearance of the season against Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday.
Bournemouth coach Andoni Iraola said in a press conference on Friday: “He lacks some playing time, but this is normal.” “He feels very good, he is working well, he has good emotions and he trained very well during the (international) break with us. He is ready.”
Adams, the U.S. national team captain for the 2022 World Cup, underwent back surgery in early July.
Adams was limited to playing three matches in the Premier League last season due to a hamstring injury that kept him out of action from September 27 until March 13. He returned to play two matches, then did not play with Bournemouth after March 30 due to back spasms.
The 25-year-old Adams played the entire game for the United States as they were eliminated from the Copa America with a 1-0 group stage loss to Uruguay on July 1 and underwent back surgery days later.
Adams was not included in the squad of new US coach Mauricio Pochettino, which will play two friendly matches against Panama and Mexico last week. The United States beat Panama 2-0 before losing by the same score to Mexico on Tuesday evening.
He could return to the national team for the CONCACAF Nations League quarter-final match against Jamaica next month.
Adams’ US teammate Tim Weah is also scheduled to return this weekend.
The 24-year-old also missed the AFL’s friendlies in October and has only made four appearances for Juventus so far this season while dealing with an ankle injury.
But Juventus coach Thiago Motta said on Friday that Weah is ready to return for his team in the Italian Serie A match against Lazio on Saturday.
Information from The Associated Press contributed to this report.
