Some long-awaited movement toward the exit door at Manchester United could be about to take place.
It is an open secret that the Red Devils need to sell players before they buy this summer as they seek to stay on the right side of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
It has been widely reported that United are closing in on a double deal to sign Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, but in order to cement those incoming transfers, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Victor Lindelof are expected to head out to pastures new.
Right back Wan-Bissaka has been in demand, with West Ham and Inter Milan leading the chase to sign him. United and the Hammers are believed to be close to a deal, with Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg claiming it will be finalised today.
Meanwhile, rumours around Lindelof have been relatively sparse. One recent report claimed that there was some interest from Italy and Turkey but that the Swede’s wage demands were putting clubs off.
Now, according to Caughtoffside, Lindelof “is attracting serious interest from several clubs in Saudi Arabia and Italy.”
The words “serious” and “Saudi Arabia” suggest the big step up in activity that United’s co-owners Ineos have been waiting for.
The report claims that the SPL “have had Lindelof on their radar for a while now.”
The outlet also says its “sources understand that a handful of Italian clubs are keen to strengthen their defence by bringing the Swedish international into their squads.”
Lindelof’s current wages are £120,000 per week according to capology.com.
Whilst this may have been a problem for Turkish clubs and may stretch the budgets of Serie A hopefuls, it should not present a problem for the wealthy SPL.
If both sales go through, it is inevitable that United will sign two replacements before the August 30th transfer deadline, whether that ends up being Mazraoui and De Ligt or not.
