Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has blamed individual errors for his side’s loss against Liverpool at Old Trafford.
An underwhelming United were convincingly beaten 3-0 by Liverpool, whose goals were grabbed by Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah. Diaz registered a first-half brace.
After the final whistle, Ten Hag spoke to beIN Sports and gave his verdict on the match.
The United boss said, “I think our start was okay, despite their one big chance that was a disallowed goal.”
“We were wrong in our organisation but then we came into the game, we improved and then we made a big mistake.”
“I have to say, they were so clinical, great finishes. I think all three goals are great finishes from Liverpool.
When asked the manner behind how United conceded – through transition moments and whether it’s a weakness area – Ten Hag replied, “It’s difficult because when you talk about individual errors because you know against Liverpool they’re very good in the turnovers.”
“I think the structures were right in the moment, especially the first goal and the second one. The third goal you can debate I think we were not sure about the right or the left side of the rest defence, but the first two goals…you can’t change when you make mistakes against a good time like Liverpool, they will kill you.”
“They [Liverpool] took their chances and were very clinical, so they deserved it [the win].”
On whether the decision to take off Casemiro at half-time was tactical or due to injury concerns, the Dutchman remarked, “It was tactical because we were 2-0 down.”
“Against Liverpool, the midfield was open and you need legs. Therefore, we brought a young player in, but he has legs and can keep the midfield closed.”
“The structures were right. We made individual mistakes.”

Ten Hag admitted that he can’t change much during the international break as he and his coaching staff will only get to work with the players once they return from their respective countries.
