Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has revealed that it’s highly likely that Casemiro will stay at the club and will not be sold this summer.
Ten Hag spoke to reporters after United’s loss on penalties at the hands of Manchester City in the Community Shield.
Alejandro Garnacho gave United the lead in the 82nd minute as he produced a sensational finish but the Red Devils’ advantage didn’t last for long.
Bernardo Silva got the better of Facundo Pellisri, who was playing at right-back, to restore parity and force the match into a penalty shootout.
City ultimately prevailed, with Manuel Akanji’s kick proving decisive.
One of United’s standout performers in their narrow loss at Wembley was Casemiro. The Brazilian looked like the player United signed in 2022, as he mustered a superb display in the middle of the park.
His passing was calm and assured. His decision-making was also very good and he provided solidity and grit in his favoured defensive midfield position. Casemiro also brilliantly converted his penalty in the shootout.
There has been speculation over the 32-year-old’s future at Old Trafford amidst links to the Saudi Pro League.
However, according to Ten Hag, Casemiro will be plying his trade at United in the upcoming 2024/25 season.
The Dutch coach said, “I don’t have any signal he [Casemiro] won’t stay and we are very happy with that.”

Ten Hag told ITV about his side’s display, “The performance was right, we were winning. We have to take this. [though], we have to take belief into the league.”
“We got pressure on the ball, and in possession, we were overloading situations in the midfield. We created chances from this. Many positives to take.”
“We are disappointed and we have to feel the pain. Everyone feels the pain and that is a good signal. I see positives and we performed well. We could have won.”
On Sancho’s missed penalty, Ten Hag remarked, “He is a very good penalty taker but today he missed. It’s part of the game.”
United return to action on Friday, when they face Fulham at Old Trafford in their opening Premier League fixture of the new campaign.
