Manchester United youngster Will Fish has picked up a foot injury and may miss the club’s pre-season tour of the United States of America.
The academy product has spent the last two seasons on loan at Hibernian, where he made himself into one of the first names on the team sheet.
Fish had his own injury issues towards the end of the season as he missed the last four games of the campaign due to a back complaint.
Back at United, the 21 year old was given his chance to shine as he was named a starter alongside veteran Jonny Evans in the first half against Rosenborg last Monday where United were swarmed by a dominant Norwegian side who were well ahead of United’s fitness levels.
He played in the first half and finished his 45 minutes with a passing accuracy of 92% and winning both his aerial duels.
According to the Manchester Evening News however, he certainly won’t play against Glasgow Rangers in Edinburgh today and is in danger of missing the US tour altogether.
He is “understood to have sustained a foot injury in the pre-season friendly defeat to Rosenborg in Norway on Monday. The 21-year-old avoided a break but suffered severe bruising and he will be assessed over the coming days.”
United boss Erik ten Hag was less than impressed with some of the fouls the Norwegian side committed during the match and claimed, “I think there were many bad tackles first half. They stopped really big opportunities when we went in counter attacks and got some big knocks. But as I see it now, they will recover for training tomorrow.”
The news is the latest bout of misfortune the youngster has had while on pre-season with United.
He made his debut in 2022 in a friendly against Crystal Palace in Melbourne but got sent off and he also captained the side last year in San Diego, but they ran out 3-1 losers to Wrexham.
Fish’s task to make his mark in the first team has got significantly harder as Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof will soon return to the squad as they have both begun pre-season training.
In addition, exciting new signing Leny Yoro is also slated to play some part in the game this afternoon.
With Lisandro Martinez to return next month after his Copa America success and United potentially resurrecting a deal for Jarrad Branthwaite, Fish’s prospects of breaking into the first team look close to zero.
Championship clubs have shown an interest in the defender and there is surely always the option of returning north to Scotland, but the key decision will be if it is on loan once more or permanently this time.
