Alisson gave an earlier verdict on new Liverpool manager Arne Slott, saying the team “doesn’t know too much about him” but the goals remain the same.
Jurgen Klopp announced Slott’s appointment in perfect fashion on Sunday, chanting the Dutchman’s name and demanding fans “go all-in” for his successor.
Within minutes, the manager had removed the biggest obstacle facing Liverpool’s new manager – simply because he is not the man they brought in to replace.
The players are likely to have the same reservations as the fans when it comes to Slott, who arrives with a blossoming reputation but considerably less elite experience than Klopp.
Speaking to Sky Sports after Sunday’s 2-0 win over Wolves, Alisson reflected on his leadership role and the “huge challenge” ahead.
“I think we’ve already started this season,” he said when asked about his part in ensuring a successful transition.
“I arrived here as a young goalkeeper, but now I am an experienced player, one of the players in the leadership group.
“I think we had to step up this season. When Hendo left, when Milly left, we had to step up to this role.
“The younger players also had to step up, in different roles, take on more responsibility, be more decisive in matches. That’s part of football.
“Now we face a big challenge, a change of manager.
“We don’t know too much about him, but I’m sure he will work hard to set his path, to bring his mentality.
“He already knows what kind of players we are, that we want to win trophies, that we want to be competitive.
“Nothing is guaranteed in the Premier League, but you have to be competitive, you have to build a team to be at the top and to work in a way that you can achieve things.
Goalkeeper – who is the subject of Saudi Arabia’s interest but This is Anfield he is understandably happy at Liverpool – he made it clear that expectations remain the same.
Trophies will continue to be the aim despite the change in manager and the emphasis is on Sloto to put his stamp on things.
Alisson, along with Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah, will be an integral part of that, with the players evidently keen to help Klopp’s replacement as much as possible.
