Michel Pereira’s first-round submission victory over Ihor Potieria stands after the Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission (CABMMA) denied Potieria’s appeal, MMA Fighting has confirmed.

The Ukrainian middleweight officially filed a complaint in mid-May citing that Pereira hit him with “an illegal kick”, landing with his leg on Potieria’s head on the ground while doing a backflip. Pereira locked up a guillotine choke seconds later, forcing Potieria to tap in the main card portion of UFC 301 in Rio de Janeiro on May 4.

CABMMA confirmed the appeal was analyzed but the decision was made to keep the result as a win for Pereira.

Pereira is now riding an eight-fight winning streak under the UFC banner, three of those since moving up to middleweight, and is currently waiting for the promotion to set his next match.

Potieria saw his previously-booked UFC Saudi Arabia clash with Shara Magomedov cancelled with the defeat, and now holds an octagon record of 2-4.
