Manchester United have reportedly made a late bid to try and stop Crystal Palace winger Michael Olisse from securing a move to Bayern Munich.

Olise was a key summer target for United in their efforts to strengthen the club’s attacking department.

The Red Devils were not alone in their admiration for Olise, who also attracted overtures from Chelsea, Newcastle, Liverpool, Arsenal and Bayern Munich.

On Friday, a report covering The Peoples Person claimed that Chelsea – widely seen as United’s main rivals in the race to sign Olise – are no longer in the race to secure his services.

Soon after, Atletico’s David Ornstein revealed that Olise wanted to join Bayern and that the Bundesliga giants were closing in on a deal with Palace for the player.

Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has since confirmed that everything has been done and that Olise will soon become a Bayern star. The young Frenchman should sign a contract until 2029.

According to The Mirror, United have been joined by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in a late swoop for Olise.

The paper says: “Manchester City and Manchester United have been beaten to the punch by Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise, despite making stunning late bids to land Crystal Palace’s prized £60m asset in 12 months.”

“The versatile 22-year-old playmaker will work under Vincent Kompany and play alongside Harry Kane next season after the German giants made an offer he couldn’t refuse. But both City and Manchester United are understood to have explored a deal that would see Palace keep Olise at Selhurst Park for another season.”

“Despite Pep Guardiola’s huge admiration for Olisse, a frustrated City have been unable to bring him to the Etihad this summer due to their ongoing concerns about financial fair play.”

The Mirror adds that ultimately United could not afford to pay Palace’s asking price for Olise as the 20-time English champions operate on a shoestring budget.

A few days ago, Fabrizio Romano confirmed this when he noted that United will first need to sell Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood before making a concrete move for Olise.
