Manchester United are looking forward to a busy summer with INEOS taking control of their first transfer window since taking control of the club’s sporting affairs.

The Red Devils will be in the market for new additions to their under-performing squad this year.

United have looked very short in defense and bolstering their backline options will be imperative ahead of the new season.

One man linked with a move to Old Trafford is Bayer Leverkusen centre-half Odilon Kossounou, according to Spanish media.

The 23-year-old emerged as one of the most talented young defenders in the Bundesliga as Xabi Alonso’s men cruised to the league title without losing a game.

The Ivorian has made 33 starts in all competitions and has two big games left, with Leverkusen fighting for a historic trophy.

The Europa League final against Atalanta on Wednesday, followed by the German Cup final against Kaiserslautern at the weekend, and victory in both would mark one of the most incredible campaigns in football history.

United’s lack of defensive stability has plagued them all season and Kossounou would add pace and strength to Erik ten Hag’s team.

However, United are not the only team interested in Kossounou’s services, with Liverpool also considering a move.

Transfers have claimed that the Merseyside club are ready to shell out up to €60 million to pry the player away from their old rivals.

Liverpool can offer Kossounou Champions League football, something United cannot offer after finishing eighth in the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are also monitoring the situation, but with Kossunou’s contract set to expire in 2026, Leverkusen could demand a hefty price for the prized asset.

United’s worst run in the league has piled pressure on Ten Haag who will be hoping INEOS will give him the benefit of the doubt after an injury-ravaged campaign and allow him to continue at Old Trafford.
