Manchester United’s new decision makers Ineos, including sporting director Dan Ashworth, have impressed fans with their decisiveness during the ongoing summer transfer window.

It is still very early days in the window and United have already addressed their attack and defence by securing the signings of Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro. Now, supporters are hoping for the Red Devils to bring in a new player or two to strengthen the side’s midfield.

João Neves and Manuel Ugarte have both been heavily linked with the Old Trafford outfit. However, Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly pushing more to sign the Benfica prodigy at this stage of the window.

Ugarte, meanwhile, has allegedly agreed personal terms with United. Still, the Premier League giants have not reached an agreement with PSG regarding their defensive midfielder.

Amid this, a report from German outlet Frankfurter Rundschau has linked United with talented defensive midfielder, Sekou Koné.

The newspaper states that United, Crystal Palace, and Wolverhampton Wanderers have all ‘put out feelers’ for the 18-year-old star, who has also been strongly linked with RB Salzburg.

Recently, Koné raised eyebrows across Europe with his performances with Mali at the U17 World Cup.

Mali were knocked out by France in the semi-finals of the competition, but Koné managed to earn plenty of plaudits for masterfully anchoring the midfield. The midfield prospect has been described as a ‘relentless’ presser by Football Talent Scout.

The report adds that the suitors of the Guidars FC sensation have an opportunity to sign him for a fee in the region of €2m.

Many United fans still remember the winter window of 2021, which saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side explore the possibility of signing a young Moisés Caicedo from Independiente del Valle for a similar nominal fee.

However, Ashworth, who was heading Brighton and Hove Albion’s recruitment at the time, showed more decisiveness and signed the Ecuadorian midfielder.

It will be interesting to see how he would approach such market opportunities as United’s sporting director.
