The senior team may have been flattered to have cheated hard this season, but ironically they were the only Manchester United who failed to impress.

The women’s team won the FA Cup, which overshadowed the lower league campaign, while the youth team achieved a historic trophy.

Even for the senior team, it was the players who were promoted from the academy, either last season or this season, that shone.

Therefore, United’s academy was the only cause for celebration at the club during a period of turbulence and poor results.

United’s commitment to strengthening their academy program has begun to pay dividends and if recent reports are to be believed, they have no intention of stopping.

The Daily Mail reports that United are aiming to recruit Scotland U15 international Cameron Mpofu in time for their next academy season.

The striker, who is currently at Reading, is highly rated in youth circles and is being tracked by a number of clubs for his exploits in youth football.

Mpofu’s family are moving to the North West to help the youngster with the move and United believe they have a “future star” on their hands.

The club has a long history of famous Scottish talents who have graced the pitch at Old Trafford, and Denis Law is at the top of it. With Mpofu’s nationality and position, he already has an idol to look up to!

United have done a great job of adding to the academy ranks over the past few years, apart from promoting from within.

Alejandro Garnacho and Willy Kambwala were recruited from foreign clubs and although Brexit has now prevented those moves, they are still getting young players from England.

The promise of a straight path to the first team is undoubtedly a big selling factor for these youngsters, while the United brand is stronger than ever despite the setbacks on the pitch.

Fans would have hoped that Mpofu would become another in a long line of players whose arrival announcement flew under the radar, but he has been falling apart in the first team for a few years.
