It has been a disastrous season for Manchester United and they need a win and other results to go their way on the final day of the Premier League season if they are to qualify for Europe’s third tier of continental club football.

The disastrous displays are partly due to the multi-year injury crisis that has plagued the team throughout the campaign and the manager’s poor choice of tactics.

This high-energy transition poker that the Dutchman wants his team to play didn’t suit last season’s midfield partnership of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.

Both lost more than a yard of pace and after the emergence of Kobbie Mainoo, the Dane’s chances dried up even more. Eriksen has started just 14 times this season compared to 37 last term.

Eriksen’s sales on cards

The former Tottenham Hotspur star has taken his displeasure to the ex-Ajax coach and the midfielder has been linked with a move away from clubs in England, Turkey and Saudi Arabia who are waiting to pounce.

INEOS are in the process of revamping the squad as they look to improve the squad’s fortunes, but before they start recruiting, the club will need to be sold first as they struggle with PSR issues after years of mismanagement under the Glazers.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has spoken of the need to recruit youth as the new regime seeks to reduce the overall age of the squad, with experienced stars such as Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial already announcing their departures, while his former Real Madrid team-mate could follow suit.

Football Insider claims that the 20-time English league champions are ready to move Eriksen this summer as well if they receive a small offer.

The 32-year-old arrived as a free agent in the summer of 2022 and is under contract until next year, meaning any sale would represent a profit.

“Christian Eriksen is likely to leave Man United this summer as plans for a mass exodus of the club accelerate. Man United’s finances are strained by profit concerns and sustainability rules, so the club must sell before it can buy.

A small fee will do

“United brought Eriksen to Old Trafford on a free transfer in 2022 after a short spell with Brentford, and the Danish midfielder has made 49 Premier League appearances.

“As a result of his free arrival, United are guaranteed to make a profit on any fee they receive for his sale this summer. With his contract set to expire in the summer of 2025, Eriksen has just one year left on his deal and the club will be looking to cash in early to avoid losing him for free. The club will accept a relatively small offer for the player.”

Eriksen’s current market value according to Transfer market it stands at €10 million, and given the ability to add it still has, INEOS should try to achieve that at a minimum.

The midfield magician can still get the job done, but the pace of the English game can overwhelm him at times. A slower league would suit his talents perfectly.
